Thetford Township - Where people make the difference

Just east of the City of Clio and directly adjacent to Vienna Township is Thetford Township, a General Law Township, which is 34.8 square miles with a population of 7,049 residents.  Thetford Township has its own Police Department and is part of the Clio Area Fire Authority, with Fire Station #2 on the premises.  The Thetford Township Police Department has an alliance with Baker College's Automotive and Design Division, whereby apprentice mechanics become certified mechanics when they refurbish our used military equipment, such as our Humvees.

Thetford also has a well-equipped Senior Center, which was the first Senior Center in the Northern Tier.  Added to that is a well-maintained cemetery with burials dating back to 1897, Thetford Township Hall where residents can hold family functions, a Grange Hall, which houses the area's genealogical records dating back to 1850, an AA facility, which holds more meetings than any other AA facility in the county.

Additionally located in Thetford Township:  Buell Lake, a no-wake lake, which is part of the Genesee County Park system, Ligon Education Center, a premier outdoor education center serving the entire county, a Girl Scout overnight campground where yearly hundreds of local girls attend summer classes, and recently, a new sledding hill was constructed behind the Township Hall.
